The 7-Day Meditation & Healing Retreat at Ananda Dhiira is a unique opportunity to step away from the constant stimulation of modern life and reconnect with yourself in a peaceful, natural environment. Located in the foothills of Northern California, Ananda Dhiira offers a supportive setting for deep rest, self-reflection, and personal transformation.
This retreat combines meditation, yoga, healing practices, silence, mindful conversation, and time in nature in a carefully balanced program designed to calm the mind, restore the body, and nourish the spirit. Each day follows a gentle rhythm, beginning before sunrise and concluding with quiet reflection and early rest. The structure of the retreat helps participants gradually settle into a more peaceful and focused state of mind while maintaining a healthy balance between practice, movement, rest, and community.
Through extended meditation sessions, periods of silence, yoga, nature walks, and healing practices, participants gradually settle into a deeper state of calm, clarity, and inner awareness.
A Retreat of Silence and Connection
One of the distinctive features of this retreat is its unique balance between silence and community.
Participants will observe approximately seventeen hours of silence each day, creating space for deep introspection and inner stillness. During designated periods, participants are welcome to engage in mindful conversation, connect with others, share experiences, and ask questions while maintaining the peaceful atmosphere.
Breakfast and dinner are enjoyed in silence, encouraging mindful eating and reflection. Lunch, nature walks, and afternoon sessions provide opportunities for meaningful conversations.
The retreat encourages the yogic principle of benevolent truthfulness, known as Satya. Participants are invited to communicate in a way that is kind, constructive, and supportive of others. Conversations that tend to create agitation or division—such as political debates, gossip, criticism, or other highly charged topics—are discouraged in favor of dialogue that promotes understanding, inspiration, and personal growth.
Participants who wish to maintain silence throughout the retreat are also welcome to do so.
Personal Guidance and Check-In Sessions
While much of the retreat is dedicated to silence and personal practice, participants will not be left to navigate the experience alone.
Throughout the retreat, there will be opportunities for both individual and group check-in sessions. These gatherings provide a space for participants to share their experiences, ask questions, discuss challenges that may arise during meditation, and receive practical guidance from the teachers.
Participants who are interested in developing a deeper meditation practice may also request a personal meditation lesson during or after the retreat. These one-on-one sessions provide individualized instruction and recommendations based on each person’s experience, interests, and goals.
We intend to create an environment that balances silence and introspection with support and guidance, helping participants feel both independent and well cared for throughout the retreat.
Your Teachers
The retreat is led by Didi Ananda Acira and Dada Diiptimanananda, experienced meditation and yoga teachers who have dedicated their lives to sharing these practices with others.
Together, they have taught meditation and yoga internationally for many years and have guided hundreds of people in developing a deeper and more meaningful spiritual practice.
Their warm, practical, and down-to-earth teaching style helps create a welcoming environment for participants of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Meditation and Yoga
Meditation is at the heart of the retreat experience.
Each day includes multiple meditation sessions designed to help participants gradually deepen their practice and experience greater mental clarity, emotional balance, and inner peace. Through regular practice, many people discover a quieter mind, increased concentration, and a greater sense of connection with themselves and the world around them.
The meditation sessions are supported by gentle yoga classes, including yoga postures, relaxation techniques, and Kaoshikii, a rhythmic yogic exercise that promotes flexibility, circulation, and overall well-being. These practices help prepare the body for longer meditation sessions by reducing stiffness, releasing tension, and improving comfort while sitting.
Meditation in Nature
Another special feature of the retreat is a daily meditation session at the beautiful South Yuba River.
Each morning, participants will enjoy a peaceful walk through nature before meditating beside the flowing river. The cool morning air, natural surroundings, and soothing sounds of the water create an ideal environment for contemplation and inner stillness.
Many participants find that meditating outdoors helps them feel more grounded, present, and connected to nature.
The walk to and from the river also provides gentle daily exercise and an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Healing and Wellness Practices
The afternoon sessions focus on healing, relaxation, and personal well-being.
Depending on the day and weather conditions, participants may experience a variety of complementary wellness practices, including:
- Sound healing
- Tai Chi
- Jorei healing
- Infrared sauna
- Mud packs
- Guided relaxation
- Yogic lifestyle and wellness classes
- Personal guidance and discussion sessions
These activities are designed to complement the meditation practice and support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Nourishing Food
Food is an important part of the retreat experience.
Meals are simple, nutritious, and prepared with care by our teachers and volunteers. Whenever possible, we use home-grown organic produce from Ananda Dhiira’s gardens as well as locally sourced organic ingredients.
Our goal is not simply to provide healthy food, but to serve meals that are both nourishing and enjoyable. Participants can expect a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes prepared according to yogic dietary principles, emphasizing freshness, balance, and natural flavors.
Many guests are pleasantly surprised to discover that healthy food can be both satisfying and flavorful.
Who Is This Retreat For?
This retreat is designed for people who feel the need to slow down, disconnect from the constant stimulation of modern life, and reconnect with themselves on a deeper level.
It is suitable for beginners who want to learn meditation, experienced practitioners who wish to deepen their practice, and anyone seeking greater balance, clarity, and inner peace.
Many participants come to the retreat feeling mentally overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or simply in need of rest. Others come with a desire to strengthen their spiritual practice, gain a deeper understanding of themselves, or spend time in a supportive environment dedicated to personal growth and well-being.
Over the course of seven days, participants gradually settle into a calmer rhythm of life. Through daily meditation, periods of silence, yoga, nature walks, healthy food, healing practices, and meaningful reflection, many people experience a profound sense of relaxation and renewal.
As the mind becomes quieter and less distracted, meditation often becomes deeper and more natural. Participants frequently report increased mental clarity, greater emotional balance, improved concentration, and a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
The retreat also provides an opportunity to explore the principles of yoga and Tantra in a practical and accessible way. Participants learn not only meditation techniques but also how yogic philosophy can be applied to everyday life to create greater harmony, self-awareness, and fulfillment.
Food is another important aspect of the retreat experience. Meals are based on a Sattvic vegetarian diet using fresh, nutritious ingredients, including home-grown and organic produce whenever possible. This style of eating is traditionally valued for its calming effect on the mind and its ability to support meditation, vitality, and overall well-being. Participants are often surprised to discover how enjoyable, varied, and satisfying healthy food can be.
Unlike many silent retreats, this program also includes opportunities for mindful conversation, personal guidance, and emotional expression. While silence plays an important role in helping the mind settle, there are designated periods each day when participants may share their experiences, ask questions, express concerns, or simply enjoy meaningful conversations with others.
Many people find that this balance of silence and connection creates a particularly supportive environment. It allows participants to benefit from deep introspection while also receiving encouragement, friendship, and guidance from both teachers and fellow retreatants.
Whether you are seeking healing, renewal, spiritual growth, stress reduction, or simply a week of peace and simplicity, this retreat offers a rare opportunity to step away from daily pressures and reconnect with your deeper self in the beautiful natural setting of Ananda Dhiira.
How to Prepare for a 7-Day Meditation and Healing Retreat
This retreat is designed to help participants experience deeper states of meditation, inner calm, and personal renewal. While no previous experience is required, a little preparation can greatly enhance your retreat experience.
Establish a Regular Practice
If possible, begin meditating daily before the retreat. Even 10–20 minutes of meditation once or twice a day can help prepare the mind for longer meditation sessions. Gentle yoga, stretching, walking, or other forms of regular exercise can also help prepare the body.
Improve Sleep Habits
The retreat schedule begins early in the morning and encourages early rest in the evening. Participants often find it helpful to gradually shift their sleep schedule before arriving.
Reduce Stimulants
If you regularly consume large amounts of coffee, energy drinks, nicotine, alcohol, or other stimulants, consider gradually reducing your intake before the retreat. Many people find meditation easier and more enjoyable when the nervous system is less dependent on stimulants.
Eat Simply and Mindfully
The retreat meals are vegetarian, nutritious, and designed to support meditation and overall well-being. Transitioning toward lighter and healthier foods before the retreat may help your body adjust more comfortably.
Come with an Open Mind
The retreat combines meditation, yoga, silence, healing practices, nature, and personal reflection. Some participants experience profound peace and clarity, while others may encounter emotions, thoughts, or habits that normally remain hidden beneath the busyness of daily life. Both experiences are a natural part of the process.
Understand the Nature of the Retreat
This is an intensive meditation retreat rather than a vacation or detox program. Participants should be prepared for several hours of meditation, yoga, silence, and self-reflection each day. Those who arrive rested, prepared, and willing to engage fully with the program generally receive the greatest benefit from the experience.
